It's All About Kids!

The mission of Northwest Youth Theatre is to educate and enrich the lives of young people by providing meaningful opportunities for them to explore the performing arts.

" . . Children's Theatre is a great educational feature. The time ought to come when a child's theatre will be a part of every public school in the land."  - Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain)

At NYT, we certainly agree.  Twain’s enthusiasm for children’s theatre was clearly born of a deep understanding of the great benefits of introducing youngsters to the performing arts.

At Northwest Youth Theatre, our guiding star lies in the statement “It’s all about kids”. Every decision we make, every play we produce, every program we create—in short, every aspect of our work is molded by the thought, the hope and desire to provide something useful and beautiful that can take root in a child’s life and help them realize their own great worth.

One student described his experience in Lois' productions this way, "Drama has given me the courage to speak up in my classes at school.  I'm not worried anymore when I have to give an oral report or talk to grown-ups."

Northwest Youth Theatre is for every child—not just the ones who have great natural performing ability. We encourage all children in our programs to look inside themselves and find ways to express the thoughts and characteristics that make them special. Our programs emphasize teamwork, sharing, encouragement, kindness and other skills that help young people grow into bright, productive and happy teens and adults. In short, Northwest Youth Theatre emphasizes the process of working together to create performances—and by emphasizing the process, we always end up with remarkable shows where every performer knows their participation was valuable.

Another student said, "They (NYT Instructors) help us feel really special - we all feel like stars."
