It's All About Kids!

. . . . by Doug Higgs

Summer Theater Workshops offer dance, drama, music.

"It's All About Kids!" is the theme of the 2004 Summer Theatre Workshops being offered by Northwest Youth Theatre and Rachel's School of Dance. "The mission of Northwest Youth Theatre is to educate and enrich the lives of young people by providing meaningful opportunities for them to explore the performing arts," said Lois Lents, founder of Northwest Youth Theatre.

"Northwest Youth Theatre is for every child, not just those who have great natural performing ability," she said.

"We encourage all children in our programs to look inside themselves and find ways to express the thoughts and characteristics that make them special," she said.

"Our programs emphasize teamwork, sharing, encouragement, kindness and other skills that help young people grow into bright, productive and happy teens and adults," she said.

The executive directors of the 2004 Summer Theatre Workshops are Lents and Rachel Glenn, the owner of Rachel's School of Dance. Other staff members are Cathy Baker, who will be teaching music in many of the programs, Athena McKeehan-Clingman, who has been teaching dance since she was 14 years old, and Katie Lents, who has an extensive background as a performer and instructor.
